Donald Trump, President of the United States, in his latest remarks has warned that Washington seeks to retake the Bagram airbase and that if Kabul opposes, “bad things” will happen. These comments have sparked widespread reactions both inside and outside Afghanistan.
In response to this warning, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, reacted today (Sunday) on his X page, emphasizing Afghanistan’s independence and territorial integrity. He described foreign threats and coercion as “unacceptable,” stating:
> “Instead of repeating failed experiences of the past, a path based on realism and rationality should be chosen.”
In its official stance, the Islamic Emirate highlighted four key points:
1. Rejection of any foreign military presence – Officials of the Islamic Emirate stressed that they will not allow the re-transfer of Bagram airbase or any other part of Afghanistan’s territory.
2. Insistence on political independence and territorial integrity – Afghanistan’s independence is non-negotiable, and foreign threats are deemed unacceptable.
3. Relations without military presence – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the U.S. may continue its political and economic relations with Afghanistan, but military presence will not be accepted under any circumstances.
4. Condemnation of the language of threats – Trump’s remarks about “bad things happening” were described as interventionist and contrary to the principles of international relations.
Meanwhile, the issue of Bagram airbase has always been one of the most sensitive points in Kabul–Washington relations, and it seems that tensions are once again on the rise over this matter.
