A significant portion of Afghanistan’s fruits and agricultural products used to perish during export to Pakistani markets due to the closure of border crossings and delays in cargo inspections. These challenges caused major losses to Afghanistan’s exports this year.
However, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock says that trade challenges between Afghanistan and Pakistan have decreased, and the export process to this country is proceeding normally.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock stated: “Currently, the Torkham, Ghulam Khan, and Dand-e-Patan border crossings are open, and exports to Pakistan are ongoing. Although there were problems at the Ghulam Khan crossing, it has now been reopened for the export of fresh and dried fruits for the past two days.”
At the same time, some traders, while requesting further facilitation from the leadership of the Islamic Emirate in the field of exports to Pakistan, also emphasized the need for more facilities regarding trade visas, transit, and exports with Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Pakistani media had reported that the volume of transit trade between the two countries had dropped from seven billion dollars to two billion dollars, citing trade and transit challenges between Afghanistan and Pakistan as the main reason. This issue has caused heavy losses for traders on both sides.
